Football is more than just a sport and sometimes its player transform into true heroes, Didier Drogba is one of them.

His devotion and generosity have brought people with different backgrounds and political views together and he once helped to end a civil war.

October 8th 2005, minutes after having qualified for the 2006 world cup with Ivory Coast, Didier Drogba knelt before his fans and he was calling for a national reconciliation for a country that had once been split into two warring sides.

He even took up the mic to pass on a message and said: “Ivorians, we’ve proven today that the entire population of Ivory Coast can live together, play together with the same goal.

Today, we’re begging you from our knees: a country with so much wealth cannot lose itself into darkness in a war like this one. Please, put down your weapons hold elections, and everything will get better.”

A hero on the field has proven by his many titles and medals he’s reaped with Chelsea. Drogba is equally heroic off of it. As time passes he’s become aware of his own influence and how to use it and clearly he’s using it for good.

October 8th 2005, proved to be a turning point for Ivory Coast. In the day that followed Ivorians talked about nothing but Drogba, the football star had also become a political hero.

Buses driving down town Abidjan were covered with praise for Drogba. Those in power recognized Drogba capacity to influence the public Charles Conan Fanny, ivory coast’s prime minister at the time even consulted him on political matters and Drogba agreed to participate.

Always with the goal of bringing peace to his country. In Ivory Coast some say that Didier Drogba is the man that stopped the war.

One thing for sure is that Drogba put everything on the line to bring up the best in his people today and he’s one of the most respected men in his country .
