With the lockdown easing little by little, there was something to savour as German football returned on Saturday 17th May, 2020 with my searchlight on Nigerian-born players. A Nigerian midfielder also scored in a friendly.

Kevin Akpoguma (TSG Hoffeinham)

Former Germany Under-21 international was not at his best as Hoffenheim bowed 3-0 to visiting Hertha Berlin. Unable to make much of an impact, the defender endured a difficult afternoon.

Ademola Lookman (RB Leipzig)

The former Charlton Athletic and Everton flyer had to make do with a place on the bench. Lookman would be brought on at half-time in place of Ethan Ampadu in a bid to add some much-needed impetus to Leipzig's attack. Vastly improved full back Jamilu Collins was productive down the left side of the back four as Paderborn mustered a 0-0 draw at Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Felix Udokhai (Augsburg)

Playing against his parent club VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday, substitute Felix Udokhai scored buy the goal was overruled by the VAR. Wolfsburg eventually won 2-1.

Chima Okoroji and Emmanuel Iyoha (Jahn Regensburg and Holstein Kiel)

Highly rated left back Chima Okoroji was brilliant at his territory for Jahn Regensburg who drew 2-2 with Holstein Kiel.

The defender played the full throttle.

Super Eagles target Emmanuel Iyoha held his own before being substituted in the 57th minute. The forward was also booked.

Obinna Nwobodo (Ujpest)

Remember Obinna Nwobodo, the midfielder who helped Rangers win the Nigeria Professional Football League title in the past. He got on the scoresheet for Ujpest who drew 2-2 with MTK Budapest on Saturday.
