How NWFL Deceives Nigerians On Super Six By Jacobson Park The controversy that greeted the Nigeria Women Football League Super Six held in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State that divinely produced Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt has come and gone. but the intrigue and intricacies that led to the abrupt end of the Nigeria Women Football League still keeps tongues wagging. The statement from the body on the 6th of April 2021, NWFL Board stated that the league was called off because it can not continued with the second stanza due to the facts that the WAFU play-off would hold in May and the NWFL league will end on July 7th. However, recent event has proved that Nigerians were either decieved or lied to because as at when the decision to cancel the second stanza of the Nigeria Women Football League was taken, venue and date had not been chosen for the WAFU play-off. The Nigeria Women Football League would have ended on July 7 and with the July 16 - 30 date for the WAFU play-off later confirmed for Cote d'ivoire, there is no way it would have affected the NWFL league from being concluded. The senerio that played out was simply some persons arm-twisted everyone to believe the lie that Nigeria stand the risk of not having a candidate if we do not end the league and play a Super Six. This is highly embarrassing to say the least. Take for example: The NFF has been notified by CAF that submission of teams for inter-club competition for 2021/22 season is June 30, yet the LMC had not even called for an end to the NPFL, but we all saw how some persons under their own personal agenda hurriedly ended the Nigeria Women Football League for a WAFU competition slated for July. The event that played out in Ijebu-Ode was another matter for another day. The poor officiating and alleged ploy to favour a particular team showed that the whole idea behind the Super Six in the first place was shrouded in secrecy. Going forward, the NFF should take keen interest in the growth of women football in the country as they have brought more laurels to Nigeria by not allowing some group of persons using their personal interest to override National interest. The NFF should also encourage the teams both state and private to stay afloat as the burden of funding these teams are very heavy. In conclusion, the Board of the Nigeria Women Football League should work towards improving on the standard and quality of the league by: 1) Ensure that standard playing pitches are approved for teams unlike what happened in the outgone season. 2) The Referees appointed for matches should be the best and also be monitored. 3) The rules and regulations guiding the league should be strictly adhered to. 4) Sponsors/marketing should be sort after to reduce the financial burdens on the teams.
