  I Would Have Played For Nigeria But... - Frimpong By Sampson Adedeji Former Black Stars of Ghana striker, Joetex Frimpong, has said that he almost represented Nigeria National team if not the intervention of his father, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Frimpong was one of the key player for Enyimba international of Aba when they emerged Africa champion back to back in 2003 and 2004. He stated this while speaking on Angel FM Radio in Kumasi, that Nigeria football officials have already approached him to play for the National team but timely intervention of his father halted the move. “My call-up came at the right time. In fact, I wasn’t expecting it because when you play for a club in Africa nobody watches you, mostly we want foreign players.” “What I know is that, when you travel outside Ghana to Nigeria or Benin, you are a foreigner but in our case people think that when you are in Africa you are still a local player.” “Due to this, I was not expecting any call-up until they called me for U-23. Nigeria too approached me but my dad told me to represent Ghana. I was personally interested to play for Nigeria but it took my dad to convince me,” he concluded. He went on to represent the Black Star between 2004 till 2009.
