By Niyi Busari
Kano Pillars Head Coach, Ibrahim Musa has said that his plan is to lead the team win the 2020/21 CAF Confederation Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Musa, who opined that early preparation for the CAF inter-club competition will play a big role in achieving his set target, appealed to the Federal Government to lift suspension on sporting activities.
Speaking with BSN Sports on Wednesday, the coach said, "I am very happy to have my team qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup. I want to appeal to the Federal Government to lift suspension on sporting activities and allow clubs start preparation early. Early preparation is important because we have to come together and train. We have not train together in the last four months. We suppose to enter the CAF competition after starting the Nigerian league.
"My target is to first qualify for the group stage after that I will then target the Cup.
When asked if Kano Pillars would have won the 2020 Aiteo Cup if it was not called off due to Covid 19 pandemic, he said, "Not even only last season, check the record, two seasons ago, we were in the final but lost to Rangers in the penalty shoot out, last season we were also in the final and won the trophy. Surely, this season we would have won the cup and that was our target." He confidently submitted.
He said Kano Pillars need to fortify the team ahead of the CAF Confederation, NPFL and Aiteo Cup 2020/21 campaigns in order to achieve the set target.
"We have to fortify the team ahead of the competition and we have penciled down five players we need for a successful season. Except the goalkeeping department, we need the central defender, right back, midfielder, attacker and striker. Though we are not doing anything about the transfer for now because it depends on what we have on ground when we are to recruit.
He is optimistic that Sai Masu Gida will not lack funds when the season get underway.
"Our state governor has passion for Kano Pillars and happy that the club is representing Nigeria in the Caf inter-club competition and said he is ready to spend his last kobo to see the team succeed." He concluded.
