Iheanacho, Osimhen, Onuachu Battle To Lead Nigeria’s Attack

Iheanacho,
A tough battle has ensued in the Super Eagles’ camp, as SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen is facing stiff competition from Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho and free-scoring Racing Genk of Belgium giant, Paul Ebre Onuachu in the squad to lead Nigeria’s search for goals against Benin Republic. BSNSports.com.ng reports that, with minutes counting away into Saturday’s fixture against The Squirrels, training has reached fourth gear in the Eagles’ camp, but Ihenacho and Onuachu have shown that they will not allow Osimhen get the starting role without a fight. Consequently, Iheanacho has stepped straight into the thick of things, despite being the last player to arrive in campo, while flight hitchs kept him away until early Thursday, as the former Columbus Crew of America and Manchster City of England lad is now raining goals during team drills. ‘Seniorman’ has since found his range at Leicester, netting nine goals in as many games and helping The Foxes into just a game away from the FA Cup Final for the first time in 39 years, all that have now seen the 24-year-old lad move to second place in the order of the Eagles’ strikers, ahead of Onuachu, who has also been scoring goals for fun in Belgium. Iheanacho has taken his scoring boots into the Eagles’ camp, as he scored twice to help the B-side dump Gernot Rohr’s A-team 2-1 in their first full session at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, where ‘Kelz’ put the ball inside Maduka Okoye’s net twice, while operating in an attack that had Henry Onyekuru, Onuachu and Enyimba winger, Anayo Iwuala. Team skipper Ahmed Musa only featured as a replacement for Iwuala while Joe Aribo, Wilfred Oyinyen Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze and Osimhen were part of Team A, for which Alex Iwobi was the consolatory goal scorer, as the Eagles intensifies preparations for Saturday’s game away to The Squirrels.
