Imo Plans World-Class Soccer Academy

A plan to establish a world-class football academy in Owerri, Imo State has reached an advance stage, Following a series of meetings initiated by Hon. Cllr. Celia Osakwe-Hibbert Special Adviser to the Governor imo state on Diaspora..
.Using Sports as a platform is a dream idea of the SA DIASPORA whom's post graduate is equally in Sports and Exercise, also a Professional Sports Woman has attracted interest from former Nigerian International, Emmanuel Emenike.
It was gathered that the former Fenerbahce of Turkey striker has been part of discussions on the modalities for the academy which according to Silver Newspaper will redefine concept of football academy in the country. ………..
Speaking on the planned project, Hon. Osakwe-Hibbert said the idea to float the football academy in Imo State was informed by her desire to contribute to the development of the State, harnessing the abundant talented youths all over the state.
"I have often visited Imo State and each time I am here, I see talents on the streets wasting and dreams unfulfilled. I see the aspirations of potential football stars crashing like a pack of cards. I see zealous young men and women, full of ambitions but without the opportunities to explore their world.”
Continuing, she said “I am happy that finally the government I dreamt and prayed for has come. I am glad to be part of it."
“Now it is heartwarming that we are relentless in persuading Imo citizens in the Diaspora in diverse sectors to join hands with the government to create opportunities for both the young and old," she said.
She further said "I'm excited because we are on track to give hope to our people, encourage them towards the realization of their dreams and aspirations.
She disclosed that the involvement of Emmanuel Emenike, in the project underlines the importance the government attached to it.
“Thousands of talents will be discovered and nurtured. Thousands of jobs will be created. This type of structure will also lead to regeneration of our city. Young minds will be occupied, reducing the number of youth crime and other vices in the state.
