It Took Me Sometime To Remember Anything - Awoniyi

By Sampson Adedeji

Just recovered Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi, has stated it took him sometime before he could remember anything.

Awoniyi on Sunday in the German Bundesliga match between his club Mainz 05 and FC Augsburg suffered a concussion after a head collision with Felix Udoukai and was rushed to the hospital for treatment, BSN Reports.

While speaking with club website, Awoniyi thanked the referee and medical chief who extremely hard to save his life.

He further felt bad that he won't be able to play when Mainz take on second placed Borrusia Dortmund this week.

“The last thing I remember was when I headed the ball, then I passed out. It was really hard to regain my consciousness, and to properly “wake up”.

It also took some time before I was able to remember everything. But I feel a lot better already.

“I’d like to thank the medical staff at Mainz 05 and at the Unimedizin Mainz, for they looked after me very well. And I’d like to thank God for protecting me in this situation and for making everything possible for me anyway.

Unfortunately, I won’t be available to help the team against Dortmund, but I will support them regardless. Together we will give our all for the fans and avoid relegation, of that I’m sure!” he said.

The 22 year old striker has played 12 matches for the German side this season.
