Former African Champion – Egypt’s Omar Assar whose recent return to the international scene was greeted with applaud across the continent continues to drop. The Egyptian has dropped from the top 39 in the world to occupy 53rd place in the latest ranking. Assar is second highest rated African player while his compatriots – Mohammed El-Beiali and Ahmed Saleh are third and fourth ranked Africans respectively. ITTF African semifinalist – Olajide Omotayo is the fifth. In the women’s ranking, African champion – Egypt’s Dina Meshref dropped to 43 in the ranking from 39 and like Quadri, Meshref still retains her spot as Africa’s highest ranked female player in the world.
