ITTF World Cup: Nigeria out after second loss

Nigeria are out of the ongoing ITTF Team World Cup in Tokyo, Japan, after losing their second match on Thursday.

Nigeria lost 3-1 to Chinese Taipei, after losing their first game 3-0 to China on Wednesday.

The Asians took a 2-0 lead with the duo Olajide Omotayo and Aruna Quadri losing 9-11, 15-13, 7-11, 11-9, 11-6 to Cheng-Ting Liao and Chien-An Chen in the doubles match.

Bode Abiodun also lost 11-7, 11-7, 11-2 to Yun-Ju Lin in the second match.

Quadri rallied the team back, defeating Chen 11-8, 12-10, 7-11, 2-11, 11-9 in the third match of the day.

The Asian side however claimed victory, after Yun-Ju Lin defeated Omotayo 11-3, 11-5, 11-3 to claim a 3-1 victory.

The two losses meant Nigeria ended last in the group with two points behind China, who had four points and Chinese Taipei with three points.

The top two teams in each group booked places in the quarter-finals, with China already through to the semi-finals, after defeating USA in their last eight match on Thursday.

Chinese Taipei will play their quarter-final match against England on Friday (today).
