Iwobi Struggles As Southampton End Everton’s Unbeaten Run

Iwobi
Alex Iwobi struggled to impress as Everton fell to a 2-0 defeat against Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Alex Iwobi was included  in Everton's starting lineup for the first time in this season's Premier League but went off at half-time. The 24-year-old has featured in five league games for Everton this season James Ward-Prowse fired past England number one Jordan Pickford to break the deadlock before Che Adams benefitted from a deflection less than 10 minutes later.

Everton went into the game having taken 13 points from their first five games but missed injured captain Seamus Coleman.

Stand-in skipper Gylfi Sigurdsson struck the bar from 20 yards when the game was goalless, but the visitors struggled to seriously test keeper Alex McCarthy and finished the game with 10 men.

Full-back Lucas Digne was shown a straight red card after a nasty challenge on Kyle Walker-Peters, the second successive game in which Everton have had a player sent off after Richarlison's dismissal in last week's Merseyside derby.

Despite the loss, Everton continue to top the Premier League table with 13 points from six games ahead of their next engagement against Newcastle United on November 1.
