John Ogu Faces Challenge As Central Defender At New Club In Turkey

Former Super Eagles midfielder, John Ugochukwu Ogu (Suker) has received a conditional offer from Denzilispor of Turkey, as he will have to start playing as a central defender if he wants to seal a deal with the team that had his erstwhile national team colleague, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi in their squad up till early last year. BSNSports.com.ng gathered that the report out of The Land of The Ottoman reveals that the struggling Turkish Super Lig side have taken Ogu on trial with a view to a transfer in the ongoing January transfer window, but the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations bronze medalist is facing a moment of decision. The 32-year-old towering left-footer, who has previously played with Drava Ptuj of Slovenia, Almeria of Spain as well as União de Leiria and Académica of Portugal, appears constrained to accept the terms put before him by the Denzil-based Lig outfit. A report by allnigeriasoccer.com added that, although Ogu has been on the lookout for a new club after his unceremonious and acrimonious exit from Al-Adalah of Saudi Arabia, where he got only seven appearances, his options are now limited by the condition posed by Denzilispor. The report adds: “With his side having one of the worst defensive records in the Super Lig, manager Yalcin Kosukavak is in the market for a left-footed central defender and has started running the rule over Ogu. “Kosukavak is planning to fully convert the Super Eagles star to a center back should he impress at the end of tests. A short-term deal until the end of the 2020-2021 season is on the cards if the former Hapoel Beer Sheva man catches the eye. “Although Ogu is predominantly a central midfielder, he is not new to the center back position as he was asked to play that role by Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr in the build-up to the World Cup in Russia.
