Jos High Court to Hear Giwa Vs Pinnick Case on Tuesday

By Niyi Busari The protracted legal battle in Nigeria football administration resumes on Tuesday at a Federal High Court sitting in Jos. Hearing in the case was adjourned on August 1. The case was initially slated to hold on July 23, but it suffered a setback due to the absence of the presiding judge. Both Pinnick and Giwa have been in and out of courts in the last four years on who is the authentic NFF president. Only last Thursday, Pinnick, along with many of the executive committee members in the 2014-2018 administrative cycle of the NFF were re-elected. Recall that the Federal High Court in Jos stopped the Warri election which produced Amaju Pinnick as the NFF president in 2014, the said election four years tenure ended last Thursday as Amaju Pinnick led NFF conducted new election despite court case adjournment to September 25th 2018. Amaju Pinnick led NFF challenged the Federal High Court rulings at Court of Appeal which ruled in their favour. Not satisfied with Court of Appeal judgement, Ambassador Chris Giwa then took the case to the Supreme Court where it was referred back to the Federal High court in Jos for final judgement. Despite congratulatory messages flowing from all around world including FIFA president Gianni Infantino, CAF president Hamad Hamad among others, the minister of youth and sports has said that the election is illegal because there is an existing court case.
