Kaizer Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp has revealed the club’s reasons for going for the Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, BSNSports reports.
The Nigerian was signed in January transfer window from Chippa United as Chiefs seemingly attempted to solve their goalkeeping problems.
Middendorp disclosed that:
"Akpeyi is calm and has a physical presence.
He communicates well with his defensive line and is good in dictating tactics at the back."
“We definitely got confirmation that Kaizer Chiefs, from management’s side, made the right decision to bring him in,” concluded the German coach.
Akpeyi nearly recorded a debut cleansheet and win when Pirates’ Thembinkosi Lorch equalised in the final 10 minutes of the clash.
The Nigeria shot-stopper was a part of the Super Eagles 2018 World Cup squad though played no part in the tournament.
