Kano goes agog for Ahlan cup. Oluchi tobex Tobe-Chukwu The pyramid city of Kano will come alive as the second edition of the Ahlan Cup kicks off from the 8th to 18th of December 2018, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Matches will be played at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kofarmata and the Kano Pillars stadium. The pre season tournament which recorded the most number of NPFL clubs in any preseason tournament in Nigeria in the maiden edition, will see Major NPFL sides trade tackles and will serve as a Preparatory event going into the 2018/2019 NPFL season. Defending champion Kano Pillars will headline the teams invited for the tournament which is sponsored by the Kano State Football Association Chairman Alhaji Sherif Inua Ahlan. Kano Pillars defeated Akwa United three nil to win the inaugural edition of the Ahlan Cup with the Sai Masugida veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali claiming the award for the most valuable player (MVP) with goalkeeper David Obiazo claiming the golden glove. Teams that participated in the inaugural edition of the most glamorous pre season tournament in Nigeria went on to end the NPFL season in a respectable position on the log with one going as far as the semi finals of the CAF Confederation Cup. A total number of 17 clubs are expected this year. The teams expected in Kano for the 2018 edition includes Kano Pillars, Wikki Tourist, Kwara United, Enyimba, Nasarawa United, Gombe United, Katsina United, Plateau United, Niger Tornadoes, Cynosure FC, Spartan FC, FC Yarmalight , Delta force, Yobe Dessert, Rivers United, Rarara FC and Abia Warriors. The Ahlan cup is the most prestigious and crowd pulling tournament as it witnessed major stakeholders in the football community especially from the NFF in her maiden edition.
