Kano Pillars scored last minute penalty to draw FWC Champions in Abuja By Admin It took a last minute goal from the spot to save Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL side Kano Pillars from suffering a defeat against FWC Champions in Abuja on Wednesday. The Masu Gida team were hosted in a pre-season game by the Champions who care at the Family Worship Centre mini stadium, Wuye Abuja which ended in a 1-1 draw. The Wuye-based team had showcased quality performance in the game which attracted the commendation of the Nigerian topflight boss. FWC Champions went ahead in the 16 minutes of the game through a worthy free-kick by the team’s captain Nwagu Okechuwku. Efforts by Pillars to have the scoreline changed on several occasions in the first and early minutes of the second half were placed under control by fantastic saves from goalkeeper Aweta Obu Suguren The 1-0 lead against Kano Pillars was sustained until a 98th minute penalty was handed to the NPFL side which ensured the game ended in a stalemate. Kano Pillars head coach of Kabiru Baleria who spoke to the press after the game, rated FWC Champions as a good side with young and talented players. He expressed delight to have had a tough challenge from a lower division team which to him is good for his side's development. “It’s a great pleasure meeting this kind of team” he stated, adding that the Wuye-based team have got young players who have been able to give his new side a real test. “I saw your captain (Nwagu Okechukwu) and your striker (Bello Lukman). They are the type of players we want to invite to our team.” However, Kabiru Baleria commended the good work by the management of FWC Champions and urged them to do more in providing better facilities for the players who have got lots of talents as he stressed that “without good facilities, you cannot play good football”
