Ace British Sports Journalist John Dykes has given applause to Fenway Sports Group (FSG), owners of Liverpool for turning around the fortune of the club.

Dykes recalled that Liverpool were in a financial mess, with a debt of £351 Million when Fenway Sport Group (FSG) bought the club 10-years ago.

The renowned football commentator attributed the Liverpool’s present success to financial strength as its owners spent heavily on the club before transforming it.

Dykes made the remarks in a live chat with Boluwaji Ogunmola on a BCOS TV Sports programme produced by Adewale Tijani, SBS Show.

”10 years when FSG bought Liverpool, the club were in a mess. They had debts of 351 million pounds and were way down on the EPL table. On the day Liverpool were sold, they were like 3rd from bottom of the league table”, the sportscaster went down the memory lane.

The Reds won their first Premier League title in 30-years, following Chelsea's defeat of former champions Manchester City by 2-1.

Dykes was also full of praises for Jurgen Klopp for guiding Liverpool to win their 19th top - flight league title.

“Jurgen Klopp made such great signings, when he stepped in. He promised to win a trophy for the Reds in four years time, and he did. I am fascinated by the way Klopp developed the project and broke Manchester City's dominance. When I remembered that just two years ago, Man City led Klopp's guys with 25 points. I just think, moving ahead of such great team as Man City is a remarkable feat that deserves accolades", Dykes said.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool lost their first three finals, first against Manchester City in the Capital One Cup. This was followed by another loss to Seville in Europa League final lost, and then that awful loss against Real Madrid in the Champions League final, where the Reds'keeper Karius made two howlers that cost them the game.

Surprisingly the Merseyside Giants put the agonising defeats behind them and forged ahead.

In the last 15 months, Liverpool have won four trophies, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and the English Premier League.

John Dykes attributed all these successes to the brilliance of both Liverpool players and their Managers.

“The players' brilliance, plus that charismatic Klopp energy, all made it a special season for them”, he noted.

However, with seven games remaining, Liverpool still have more records to smash before the season winds up.
