Kyrgios Out of Australian Open; Djokovic Through
By: Francis Joseph
Nick Kyrgios has made the earliest Australian Open exit of his career after being troubled by knee soreness in his first-round loss to big serving Canadian Milos Raonic.
Kyrgios had reached at least the second round in his five previous appearances in the men's main draw but he struggled for rhythm under the lights of Melbourne Arena, with Raonic winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
World number one Novak Djokovic also advanced to the second round by beating the spirited American qualifier Mitchell Krueger 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 on Rod Laver Arena.
Kyrgios did not have the smoothest of preparations for the Australian Open, having spent time in hospital over Christmas because of a spider bite, before losing in the second round of the Brisbane International as defending champion.
