Malsa halved the deficit in the 21st minute and ensured a respectable results in the first half. In the second half, the Nigeria international scored to make the scoreline 3-1 for Villareal in the 63rd minute before another  72nd minute own-goal by Vezo. Chukwueze completed his brace in the 75th minute before he was substituted for Yeremy in the 81st minute of the game. The victory ensured that the Yellow Submarines continued its search to return to the lucrative UEFA Champions League.
