Lagos Women Run Adopts Virtual Run for 2020 Edition

The Coordinator of the Lagos Women Run, Tayo Popoola, has declared in Lagos, that, the 2020 edition of the only women run in Africa, will take a new dimension, taking into consideration strict adherence to the preventive measures against the spread of Covid-19 in Nigeria and indeed Africa.

She noted at the weekend that, the 2020 edition of the Run, will be Virtual only the Regular Runners, the amateurs, the corporate runners and other fun runners, while the Elite Runners will compete in the normal run, which will be closely monitored by the organizers to prevent unregistered runners who have not been cleared and given a clean of health to run, from joining the 10 kilometres run.

Popoola added that, "the Virtual Run, can be run anywhere. It can be in London, anywhere in Africa or any part of Nigeria. "These runners will logged on to a dedicated App that will be supplied by the organizers of the Lagos Women after registration.
"A large video matrix screen will be provided to monitor each runners from their various locations as they compete, as the race will be flagged off at the same time and finishing must also be at the same time.
"The App will record the races of each of the runners and winners will be determined based on the fastest time returned at the end of 10kilometres," noting that, only registered runners will get medals."

She stressed that work has been intensified on logistics and to ensure proper understanding and articulation of the innovations introduced by the Lagos Women Run for the 2020 event, there will be a press conference and a seminar to ensure all those involved understands the dynamics of Virtual Running. There will also be an Expo to showcase all the technicalities of the 2020 Lagos Women Run.
"Registered runners will pay a token to get their certificates and medals delivered to their doorsteps and contact address as supplied to avoid the usual crowding at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, Secretariat of the Lagos Women Run.

"This is our fifth year anniversary, we want to do some unique things," Tayo Popoola said.
