Barcelona Humiliate Chukwueze's Villarreal
By Admin
Barcelona had arguably their finest away performance of the season as they defeated Villarreal 1-4 on Sunday night at the Estadio de la Ceramica. Barcelona fired themselves into an early lead courtesy of an own goal by Pau Torres which was forced by Antoine Griezmann, but Villarreal took no time at all to respond through Gerard Moreno.
There was little from Villarreal in the first half , but then suddenly they suffered a huge blow after trying to score an equalizer against Barcelona on the break to pull even 1-1. A long ball was hoofed up field by Samuel Chukwueze to Paco Alcacer, who crossed for Santi Cazorla and, after Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen blocked Cazorla's shot, Gerard Moreno was there to pounce and fire into net for the equaliser.
However, it was not so good for the Yellow submarine has Lionel Messi worked hard alongside his teammates to secure a glorious victory. You would expect the Blaugrana to be playing with an element of fear considering Real Madrid's win against Athletic Bilbao leaving them with a great challenge in the La Liga title race.
Lionel Messi, who contributed two assists in what was the most complete Barcelona performance seen in weeks also as he set up the third goal shortly before half-time when another accurate pass ended with Messi back-heeling to Griezmann and the Frenchman hitting the most delicate of chips over Asenjo and into goal for a three goals lead.
The only joy missing was a Messi goal and it nearly came in stoppage time when he stung a free-kick off the crossbar. It was later disallowed after checking the VAR. However, that didn't stop the joyous Barca from scooping away all three points to trail closer to Madrid.
