Lawal advises Rohr not to Rush Henry Onyekuru to world Cup By Admin Former Nigeria international Garba Lawal has advised Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr not to rush striker Henry Onyekuru ahead of the World Cup. Onyekuru had earlier this week returned from a long injury lay-off, boosting Nigeria’s attacking options ahead of the soccer fiesta in Russia. However, Lawal who won Olympic gold in 1996, told www.bsnsports.com.ng, “It’s a good thing that Henry has returned to training from his injury. “Everyone was concerned when he had that injury and I am happy that he came back even earlier than was predicted for him to return." He continues. “But I will say he is not yet ready to return to the Eagles ahead of the World Cup because the injury was a serious one and returning to form after a knee injury takes a longer time than one would think." “Henry is a good player and his addition to the Eagles would be good but he should not be rushed. He should first focus on his club and return to the form that saw everyone calling for his addition to the Eagles, then he would be ready for the team." According to him, “The World Cup is a tournament that every coach goes with his best players and for Henry to make that team, he needs to be at the top of his game in his club. There is not much time left before the World Cup." “There are other players who are doing well in their clubs; the coach can add those if he needs to reinforce his team. “Henry is still very young and will definitely make subsequent World Cups if he misses out on this. It’s better for him to take his time and return to form than being rushed and be a liability to the team at the tournament.”
