Leicester City 2-2 Manchester United: Vardy late goal denies high flying Reds

Leicester City held Manchester United to a 2-2 draw in a Premier League game staged at the King Power Stadium on Boxing Day. United looked the brighter side in the earlier exchanges and missed a glorious chance to take the lead in the second minute when Marcus Rashford missed a free header after being put through by Bruno Fernandes. Mark Albrighton was to miss a chance for Leicester on the other end with United defense thwarting the danger. Rashford was to make amends for his fluff by giving the visitors a 21st minute lead following a nice move from the left side that had been instigated by Daniel James. Harver Barnes was to give a response ten minutes later after he was given some space by Scott McTominay to restore parity for the home side. Fernandes was to be booked for bringing down an opponent as both teams ended the first half leveled with a 1-1 scoreline. On resumption, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskajer was to withdraw James for Paul Pogba to bring some stability in his midfield. Rashford then had a perfect opportunity at the hour mark to restore United's lead but his effort was thwarted by keeper Schmeichel in Leicester's goal. United then thought that they had taken the lead through Anthony Martial. A minute after the Rashford effort but the effort was disallowed after VAR review as he was in an offside position in the build-up; United withdrawing Victor Lindelof who looked to have picked an injury for Axel Tuanzebe later on. United then brought on Edinson Cavani for Martial and the impact was instant; Uruguayan providing the assist that was tucked in by Fernandes ten minutes from time. Leicester had other ideas though as Jamie Vardy came up with an equalizer six minutes from time after the United defense failed to track him in the box. Despite four additional minutes, the hosts were able to hold on to stop United from extending their impressive away record in the league.
