Liverpool Boss, Jurgen Klopp has voiced his greatest regret

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that one of the biggest mistakes of his managerial career was not signing Sadio Mane when he had the chance at Borussia Dortmund.

The Liverpool boss was at the helm of BVB from 2008 to 2015 and detailed the time Mane was in his office for the two of them to speak but he didn't sign the Senegalese attacker due to being unsure about what he could bring to the club.

It was in 2014 when Klopp had the chance to bring Mane to the Westfalenstadion. He had been tracking the winger, who at the time played for Red Bull Salzburg, since the 2012 Summer Olympics but despite the face-to-face talks decided not to pursue the deal.

Mane signed for Ronald Koeman at Southampton that summer for £11.8million and Dortmund made an awful start to their campaign which proved to be Klopp's final one in charge at the German club.

It was at Anfield though where Klopp was given a chance to right his wrongs and bring Mane into a team he was creating and so in 2016 the Reds paid the Saints £34m to secure the attacker's services and recently secured a new five-year deal with him.

"The time I have spent with Sadio Mane has been fantastic," Klopp said.

"I love the boy!

"He's an outstanding player."

Mane has become an integral part of Liverpool's first team and played a vital role in helping the Reds to rise to the Premier League summit where they sit clear of Tottenham and Manchester City after beating Brighton 1-0 on Saturday.

Since Mane joined Liverpool he has played in 76 matches in the Premier League and 19 games in the Champions League.

In the domestic competition the Reds attacker has scored an incredible 31 goals while adding another 11 to his tally in Europe.

It's clear just how much of an incredible player Mane is and nobody seems to know that more than Klopp.

"I have made a few mistakes in my life and one of my biggest mistakes ever was not taking Sadio when I was at Dortmund," he added.

"We were together in an office and I spoke to him.

"Afterwards I wasn't sure but that was really my fault!

"He's an outstanding boy and life gave me a second chance to work with him and hopefully we can both use it."
