LMC Pushing To Thwart Appointment of Owumi By Our Reporter The leadership of the League Management Company (LMC) is pushing full throttle and on all fronts to thwart the appointment of Davidson Owumi as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is against the directive of the majority owners of the LMC, the NFF, as well as the full blessings of Sports Minister, Sunday Dare. Owumi has yet to resume as CEO at LMC as a direct replacement for Nduka Irabor, who quit the post more than a year ago. www.insideglasshouse.com learnt that those desperately opposed to Owumi’s appointment have insisted he can only be appointed by the LMC Board of Directors and not the NFF. As CEO, Owumi will be in full charge of the day-to-day running of the LMC and that means oversee the finances of the company entrusted with running the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). That role is currently being performed by the LMC Chairman, Shehu Dikko. It was further gathered that top LMC officials are also considering making Shehu Dikko an Executive Chairman, which will make Owumi redundant and at best a ceremonial appointee. A legal challenge by LMC of Owumi’s appointment has also not been ruled out, officials told www.insideglasshouse.com Shehu Dikko’s quest for the full financial control of the LMC was what led to the rather acrimonious departure of Irabor in the first instance. The battle line has already been drawn as the LMC has yet to respond to a formal request by Owumi that he be furnished with a detailed financial position of the company, which has been shrouded in secrecy under the watch of Shehu Dikko. This was even after the CEO-designate fired a reminder and copied both NFF President Amaju Pinnick and the Sports Minister.
