By Abidoye Babatunde
Lobi Stars suffered a big blow to cruise them to knockout rounds of the CAF Champions League after they lost 1-0 to Wydad Casablanca from Morocco in Enugu, BSNSports reports.
Mohamed Nahiri netted the winning goal from the spot in the 20th minute blasting past
Olufemi Kayode in goal for Lobi Stars.
That was however the only passage the Moroccan could have as Lobi put up a good fighting to ensure that Wydad didn’t increase the tally.
The Solomon Ogbeide tutored side did not only ensure that the first half ended 1-0 but
stood their ground till the final whistle as Wydad fought tooth and nail with intent to increasing the score line to no avails.
Lobi Stars goalie Olufemi Kayode save a spot kick in the 63rd minute, but the hosts could not find an equaliser despite piling pressure on the
opposition’s staunch defenders in the closing stages of the game.
Lobi Stars remain in third on the log in Group A with Wydad Casablanca back on top on six points and a better goals difference than Mamelodi Sundowns, who also have six points after three matches.
The Solomon Ogbeide’s men will face Wydad Casablanca in the reverse fixture on February 12 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Rabat.
