Benue State Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu, has promised Lobi Stars players the sum of One million naira (N1m) as part of his contribution to encourage the team following their 2-0 victory against Gor Mahia of Kenya in the CAF Champions League second leg qualifier decided at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Saturday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
While responding to a question posed by Frankie Omokhua in a post match interview after the crucial encounter, Abounu, thanked the players and officials for the feat.
Sikiru Alimi second half brace in the 70th and 88th minutes were enough to send Lobi Stars through to the group stage of the 2018/19 CAF champions league on away goals rule.
Gor Mahia had won the first leg 3-1 at home before today's Lobi 2-0 victory to end the two-legged match 3-3 on aggregate.
With the win, Lobi stars joined eight other African clubs that made it to the group stages.
The defending champions, Esperance of Tunisia, TP Mazembe from DR Congo, Mamelodi Sundown and Orlando Pirate from South Africa, CS Constantine of Algeria, Ismaily of Egypt and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco as well as Lobi Stars of Nigeria have all sailed through to the group stage.
