The deal taking Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye to Watford in January 2022 included a clause stipulating that Sparta Rotterdam would receive a maximum appearance bonus of 500,000 euros (approximately N232million in Nigerian currency), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
According to RTV Rijnmod, Sparta Rotterdam agreed to the sale of Okoye to Watford in exchange for five million euros, contrary to the seven million euros fee being bandied about relating to the upcoming transfer.
General manager of Sparta, Manfred Laros clarified on Monday that the Rotterdam club will receive only five million euros without disclosing the performance-related add-ons.
In recent weeks, various amounts have been circulated when Okoye's transfer came up. Laros already created a little more clarity on Monday by reporting in the Sparta podcast on Rijnmond that the Rotterdammers will not receive seven million euros, but five million euros gross as a transfer fee from Watford FC.
