Maiden Southwest Rising Stars U17 Girls Basketball Championship Gets Date By Niyi Busari The Olumide Oyedeji Youth Foundation has concluded plans to stage the maiden edition of regional youth basketball tournament tagged "Rising Stars U17 Girls Basketball Championship in Lagos, BSN sports.com.ng can report. Recall that Olumide Oyedeji Youth Foundation held the first edition of the Rising Stars U17 Boys Basketball Championship in Akure, Ondo State in April where Lagos State emerged champions after handed a defeat to Oyo State in the final. All six Southwest states namely; Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti have indicated interest in participating in the maiden edition aimed at discovering young talented basketball players for greater future. The week-long event is scheduled to dunk off on December 3 and ends on December 9 at the Indoor Sports Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos. The organiser, Olumide Oyedeji who doubles as the Vice Chairman Lagos State Basketball Association has concluded arrangement for all the teams to be fully kitted with conducive accomodation for all participating teams. Speaking ahead of the competition, the former D'Tigers captain, Olumide Oyedeji stated that the event is aimed at providing platform for the girls who are talented basketball players to showcase their God-given talents to the world. He added that awards will be given to exceptional players while former basketball player, alumni of Olumide Oyedeji Foundation and dancer, Kaffy will mentor the young girls on 'Girls Education'. Kaffy will use her experience to mentor the young girls on the importance of education in career development. "It is important that at this time we restore hopes in all the upcoming talents who wish to become star basketball players. No doubt, Nigeria has the talents capable of dominating the world. But is one thing to have and another to discover and put them on the right track. "We thought it is important that after a successful organization of Rising Stars U17 Boys Basketball Championship in Akure, such opportunity should also be extended to the girls." "The seven days event will hold in Lagos from December 3 to 9, 2021. We appreciate the Lagos State Basketball Association for providing us with enabling environment to host the tournament." He concluded.
