The Nigeria champions in the opening game against all odds suffered a 3-0 defeat to ASFAR FC of Morocco and dropped to the bottom of the table before another 0-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns. Rivers Angels on Tuesday confronted Mamelodi Sundowns who won its opening game with a slim 1-0 win and it ended in another defeat for the Nigeria side. The game started with Rivers Angels dominating the game and recording three corner kicks in a row but it was Nhlapho that put Sundowns ahead in the 17th minute in a controversial manner. All the efforts of Rivers Angels to level the game before the halftime proved abortive. In the 53rd minute Ezenagu scored for the Nigeria team but the referee overruled the goal and instead awarded a free-kick to Sundown. Despite all the pressure, Sundown backline stood their ground throughout the entire second half and condemned Rivers Angels to another defeat. The result means that Rivers Angels are out of the competition irrespective of the outcome of their game against Vihiga Queens of Kenya on Friday.
