Maryrose Emerges Champion of 21st IBB Ladies Close Golf Tournament By Niyi Busari Lady Captain, Maryrose Richard-Obioha has emerged the overall winner of the 21st IBB Ladies Close Championship held at the IBB Golf and Country Golf Club, Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng can report. The three-day championship which got underway on Thursday with ceremonial tee off with over 65 amateur golfers who competed for honours in 36 holes as Veterans of 60 years and above played in 18 holes. Maryrose posted best Gross of 197 with 148 Nett. Reacting after receiving the award, elated Maryrose said she hope to defend the trophy next year. "I am so happy to win this trophy. It is not easy shaking off the duties of being the Lady Captain and come on to emerge winner among others who equally good golfers. I hope to keep up the good work and defend the trophy next year. I thank everyone who has supported us to make this a dream come true. Hon. Secretary, Lady's Golf Section, Lizzy Asomugha who won the longest drive and third on her category said; "I will like to say it has been a very good one and Ladies are so happy to play in the beautiful course made possible by our dear captain, Maryrose Richard-Obioha. We all played in the competitive tournament and I am happy to be one of the winners, winning in my category and also winning the longest drive on the board." Chairman, Board of Trustee IBB Golf Club, General IBM Haruna (Rtd) expressed his delight and encouraged young ones to engage in the game of golf. According to him, it helps in enhancing the health status of individual. "I will advise the young ones to engage themselves in the game of golf or do other form of exercise because golf is a special game where you play your own ball and count. Kudos must be given to those who make this possible as the name suggested, the competition is meant for the Ladies who are registered members.
