Minister Meets NBBF Board Today

The Minister of Youth and Sports development, Mr, Sunday Dare will on Monday meet with the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation as part of ongoing efforts to get the federations running up to maximum speed, and develop other sports alongside football.

The meeting, scheduled to hold at the ministry in Abuja on Monday, will discuss preparations for the Tokoyo 2020 Olympics and training plan for the D’Tigers male basketball team, which has secured a ticket and D’Tigress female basketball team with three more games in the qualifiers.

Our correspondent reports that the meeting will also discuss NBBF financial situation with a view to exploring new funding options and the report submitted by NBBF in response to a request by the ministry.

The ministry had written sports federations requesting that the federations submit their programs and training plans to enable the ministry take necessary steps. “Federations are therefore expected to develop and train their athletes and present them to the Ministry in a timely fashion for competitions, which requires that the training of athletes should now be on and off season,” the letter reads. The Badminton and Weightlifitng federations are in line for similar meetings
