With one day to the opening group D game of Nigeria's Super Eagles against Pharaohs of Egypt, Maduka Okoye has said his debut in the competition is a dream come true for his father, BSNsports.com.ng can report.
The Sparta Rotterdam shot-stopper made his debut for Nigeria in an international friendly against Brazil.
Since his debut under former coach Gernot Rohr, Okoye has been regular with the team.
While speaking to Netherlands news outlet described how he watched AFCON as a little boy and how his father will feel seeing him in action for Nigeria.
“Yes, when I watched matches as a little boy, I could already see myself standing there. It's very special that it comes out in the end. My dream is coming true, I can't wait," says Okoye, whose voice still bounces when he talks about his father.
“This was also his dream. He is now on his way from his hometown of Düsseldorf to Cameroon to support me. Will he shed a tear when I eventually play for real? I've hardly ever seen my father cry, but maybe I will now, haha," he said.
