National Election: SWANi President, Sirawoo Arrests SWAN Bigwigs With DSS

Department of Security Service in Abuja on Wednesday invited five top Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) officials to their office for questioning over purported SWAN Congress in Abuja.

According to information reaching BSN Sports they were invited over a congress said to have been held on August 9th 2019 at the Package B of MKO Abiola stadium, Abuja. Investigation revealed that the said Congress was never held and the malicious communique released which claimed the congress was held at the MKO Abiola stadium was neither signed by the invited SWAN chieftains nor have their names mentioned in it.

The despiteful communique which was seen flying around on social media should not be taken serious by any reasonable minded person because it was signed by non-existing name one Abdullahi Usman Bayero (a name that does not appear on the list of SWAN as member).

How on earth can a communique which was signed by a singular person as Communique Drafting Committee be taken serious?

In an Association like SWAN, if there are issues, there are internal mechanisms to sort them out.

Ordinarily, such minor issue suppose to be handed over to the national body of Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) who is capable of sorting it amicably without involving DSS but in this case, the Sports Writer Association of Nigeria Incorporation (SWANi) led by Honor Sirawoo ignored NUJ and decided to write a petition to the DSS accusing innocent SWAN former officials of 'coup planning'.

NUJ is the umbrella body under which SWAN is accommodated. And without exploring internal mechanism, DSS have since Wednesday inviting the former SWAN National Secretary, Andrew Abbah, immediate past FCT Chairman, Kayode Adeniyi, immediate past National Secretary of SWAN, Wale Alabi, former FCT SWAN Chairman, Richard Jideaka and Mike Ndidi to their office.

As if that is not enough, they are expected to continue going to DSS office from next Monday on a matter that can be handled and solved internally.

In the coming days, Wale Joseph, Niyi Alebiosu will also be invited by the DSS as their names were on the list.

Why is Sirawoo afraid ahead of the oncoming national election? Why does he compound his situation with this unnecessary arrest of innocent responsible men?

A source alleged that SWANi president, Honour Sirawoo did that with intention of sending fears into the spines of his perceived 'enemies'.

"He wants everyone to keep mute to allow him do whatever he wants to as the date national elections approaches." The source revealed.

As national election draw closer, hitting up the polity is expected but to win such election you need to win the heart more people to your side and not increasing the number of your perceived 'enemies'.

Meanwhile BSN Sports efforts to get Honour Sirawoo to air his side of the story was not possible as his phone number could not be reached. However, we will try and get his own side as well.
