The Nasarawa State para-soccer team on Tuesday in Abuja cruised into the semi-finals of the ongoing National Para-Soccer Championship.
The Nigeria News Agency reports that both teams put up an impressive performance in the match played at the Old Parade Ground.
Katsina also qualified for the semi-finals in spite of being sniffed by Nasarawa 3-2.
Saidu Haruna of Nasarawa team opened scoring before Sani Gimibiya of Kastina equalised for his team before the end of the first half 1-1.
On resumption for the second half, Haruna of Nasarawa scored his second goal of the day to make it 2-1.
Nasarawa put up a lot of pressure on Katsina defence and their efforts paid off with a goal from Musa Ibrahim to make it 3-0 before Bello Usman of Katsina scored to make it 3-2.
All possible efforts for the Katsina team to equalise proved abortive as the Nasarawa team stood their round.
The Katsina coach, Auwal Bawa, told NAN after the game that he was happy with the team’s performance and their qualification to the semi-final.
“It was a real battle for my players, but our opponents also displayed wonderful performances.
“I have qualified for the semi-final and am looking unto God for success. I will encourage my boys to work harder for the next game.
“My next plan is for us to take the trophy back home,”he said.
NAN gathered that there was a delay before the commencement of the first match of the day.
The semi-final match winner in group A tackling runners-up group C (Kaduna team tackles KaSupervina team).
While the championship is the seventh edition, it started on Saturday at the Old Parade Ground and will end on Thursday to mark the World Polio Day.
