National Principals Cup: Ministry Of Sports Frowns At Lagos Absence
By Niyi Busari
The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development is not happy over the withdrawal of its athletes by Lagos State at the maiden Principal's Cup finals in Abuja.
The six zonal representatives are expected to compete for honours in three sports events - table tennis, football and athletics.
All States whose athletes are to be in Abuja for the finals of the inaugural national Principal Cup were present save Lagos State athletes.
Director of Grassroots Sports, Dr Ademola Are who made this known while speaking with BSN Sports during the football game between South West and South East said; "It's very sad that Lagos State is not present here. We are wondering what really happened but we will get to them.
"Feelers we got is that they withdrew for security reasons. It's not good for us because these children have lost a golden opportunity by not participating. There's a girl that won five gold medals in Ibadan and she is not here and personally, I am not happy about that because I watched her played."
The four-day sporting events which commenced on Saturday ends on Tuesday.
