National Youths Games Opening Ceremony Shifted To Friday Over Accomodation Challenges By Our Reporter In a bid to resolve accomodation issues, the Federation of Ministry of Youths and Sports has shifted the date for the opening ceremony to Friday, 15th October 2021. The opening ceremony was scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 13th October 2021. However, early arrival of different contingents met with disappointment as they fail to get accomodation. This followed refusal of students to go to Kwara State Polytechnic to complete their examinations. The school authority had instructed the students to vacate their rooms and complete their papers at the alternative venue but the students insisted that they will not vacate the premises leading to contingents who have arrived the venue of the National Youth Games being stranded and had to sleep inside their buses. Rattled by this, the Director of Grassroots Sports, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Bode Durotoye dropped the hint that there has been slight change in the timeline of the schedule of activities. He explained that the new arrangements would affect the opening ceremony date which was then shifted to Friday, while the screening for the athletes which was supposed to hold today Tuesday, 12th October 2021 has been fixed for Thursday, 14th October 2021. In his words, Bode said “The change is to give more days for contingent to arrive and find accommodation for them.” Unlike the last five events, there has never been a change in the annual championship. National Youth Games is annual grassroots sports event organised by the Ministry of Sports for young talented athletes below 15 years.
