NBBF Bows To Pressure As Congress Postpones Elections Indefinitely By Niyi Busari An Extra-Ordinary Congress of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) on Thursday has postponed the Elective Congress of the Federation scheduled to hold Saturday, 30th September in Benin, Edo State. Recall that the Ministry of Sports in a letter dated 25th September and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ismaila Abubakar directed that the Elective Congress scheduled for this Saturday be postponed indefinitely pending when the leadership problems rocking the federation is settled. In a swift reaction, the former president of NBBF, Musa Kida and the electoral committee had insisted that the elections will go ahead as scheduled adding that only the Congress and not the Ministry has the power to shift the date of the election. The Congress however, after the Extra-Ordinary meeting on Zoom took to the advise of the Ministry of Sports and postponed the elections indefinitely. It also mandated the Federation to work hand in hand with the Ministry of Sports for positive discussion for free, fair and successful elections. It reads; "An Extra- Ordinary Congress of the NBBF was held today, 28th of October, 2021, by Zoom , to discuss the position of the Ministry of Youth And Sports Development to postpone the NBBF Elective Congress that was scheduled to hold in Benin City, Edo State on 30th October, 2021, as approved by the Congress of 9th October, 2021, held in Abuja. "The NBBF President, Engr Ahmadu Musa Kida, admonished the Congress to respect and appreciate the advise of the FMY&S to postpone the Elective Congress so that all the concerns raised for a successful elections onto the NBBF Board for the 2021- 2025 Term of Office can be addressed. "After thorough deliberations, the Congress agreed as follows: That, as advised by the FMY&S that the Elective Congress be postponed to a later date, Congress unanimously agreed to postpone the Elective congress by a few weeks. "Congress mandated the NBBF President to engage the FMY&SD in a positive discussion for a free, fair, transparent and successful elections to be held to usher in a new Board."
