By Sampson Adedeji The Sokoto state Governor, Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal has been singled out for praise by the Nigeria Basketball Federation ( NBBF) board for his prompt response and intervention upon receiving reports about players who were recently involved in an auto crash, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Acknowledging the impact played by the state government, the NBBF said the prompt response ensured that the players were given prompt and good attention. The NBBF board led by Engr Musa Kida said, “Special thanks must go to His Excellency for coming through for the players which significantly reduced the impact of the accident on them”. Kida explained that upon being briefed by the North West Zonal representative, Surajo Yusuf, he immediately got in contact with the Governor which set the machinery rolling for their quick rescue and prompt medical attention. While thanking the former Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2011, Kida acknowledged the vital roles played by the Commissioner of Health, Sports as well as the Sokoto State Director of Sports. “Immediately he heard about it, he mobilized the State Commissioner for Health who used his good office to get the players admitted into the Teaching and Orthopedic hospitals in Sokoto.” Sadly, the team’s Head Coach who doubled as the driver, Elisha Jatau was not so lucky as he died few hours after undergoing a minor operation. Other players who are currently being attended are in stable conditions.
