Basketball: The Viral Video Just The Beginning, More Revelation Coming Soon - D'Tigress Roar
By Niyi Busari
The African Women's Basketball champions, D'Tigress have vowed to reveal more dirty deals in the Nigeria Basketball Federation in the coming days. This follows the report that their monies are intact in a bank.
D'Tigress last Friday October 8, 2021 in a Zoom interview with BSN Sports (which the players later did video version that went viral) revealed the backlog of unpaid allowance and bonuses the Federation has owed them over the years adding that being maltreated by the outgoing board was the reason they refused to visit Nigeria since 2017.
They described the claim that the monies the Federation is owing them is in a bank as lame excuse and demand for the right thing to be done before more revelation is made.
Reacting to the explanation on why the money has not been paid, D'Tigress players in another interview with BSN Sports on Wednesday afternoon stated that their next video which will be uploaded soon will be more revealing than the latest one.
According to them, the information that the money is intact in a bank may force them to release the video sooner than expected if the right thing is not done. They argued that the money released by the three banks before the Olympics was not meant to be kept in CBN while their account details are with the people in charge.
"So, someone can now talk to the world about the money after we were being neglected for months? They just woke up and told the world that the money is in the CBN. How about the money they have been owing us since 2018? Is that one in bank too? We know that the Federal Government of Nigeria paid over Two billion naira in 2019 to the Ministry of Sports. What happened to the money? Is that one still in bank?
"We have submitted our account details to them but they're not ready to disburse our money to us. We spent our resources in making Nigerians proud but we are being paid with disappointment and regrets.
Speaking further, they said the General Manager of the team has not been paid since 2018 and has been begging the federation on the payment of the players bonus since February this year. The layers added that she encouraged them to concentrate on winning the last Afrobasket championship in Cameroon before coming out to demand to what due to them.
"The GM has not been paid since 2018. She has on several occasions begged the Federation over the payment of backlogs of allowance and bonuses of D'Tigress. She urged us to be determined and focused on winning the last Afrobasket as that will be the only way the world will listen to us. Now that we are talking after being neglected, they said it is political.
"We pray that the right is done soon before another video is released."
