Effiong apologises for outburst, Chikatara suspended

Akwa United forward, Ndifreke Effiong, has tendered an apology to the management, technical crew, his teammates and fans of the club for his outburst with former head coach, John Obuh, during their 3-0 defeat away to MFM FC last Friday.

Effiong was involved in a rift with Obuh, who resigned from his position Monday.

The home-based Eagles forward expressed regrets over his action promising to turn a new leaf.

“I feel sorry for what happened on Friday. The pressure was too much and I became frustrated at some point and had a verbal disagreement with the technical bench,” Effiong told the club website.

“It was quite unlike me and I feel so sorry about everything and I wish to say that it will never happen again.

“I am appealing to the management, the technical crew, my teammates and all our fans to forgive me. I want to plead with all our fans and supporters to keep faith with the club, as we will do our best to ensure we grind out results in upcoming fixtures because I believe we can still do better this season,” the striker concluded.

The former Abia Warriors striker has scored four times for the Promise Keepers in the current season, including a hat-trick against Adamawa United on match-day six.

Meanwhile forward, Chisom Chikatara, has been suspended by the club for offences ranging from gross insubordination, lack of respect for camp rules and unsportsman-like attitude.
