NFF Divides Over NANPF Elections

NFF
NFF Divides Over NANPF Elections By Admin Like a season film, the continuing part of the politicking, and game play during the 2018 Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Katsina general elections between Sheriff Inuwa popularly known as Alan and Alhaji Ahmed Fresh to outsmart each other has been brought into National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers, NANPF, elections billed for December 4, BSNSports.com.ng reports. BSN sports scooped that power tussle between the two NFF Board members who have interest in the Association's elections and have allegedly vowed to install their different candidates in power is already creating tension ahead of the elections. The Association incumbent president, Dahiru Sadi who has enjoyed the Union for years and couldn't buy form to show interest in retaining his position because he lacked the power to do so, having stayed more than two prescribed terms in office, is bent on spill the beans by stopping the Players Union's oncoming election through court injuction. According to Sportsajasa Dahiru had met two NFF board members, Ibrahim Gusau and Inua Sheriff in South Africa during the Super Eagles Nations cup qualifiers against Bafana Bafana, and he was able to convince them into fighting his battle by selling the dummy that he is wanted out of the association by some of the NFF big wigs who were not happy with the role he played at the last NFF election in Katsina. These two board members who apparently has an issue with the said board members now felt it is an opportunity for an extended fight against them by aligning with Dahiru Sadi to stop the planned NANPF election. And part of their plans to scuttle the election we gathered, is to get a court injunction to put it on hold while Dahiru remain in office pending the determination of the substantive matter by the court which in most cases might take years to conclude. When confronted Alan with the allegation during the Nigeria National League congress where he was the special guest of honor with a view to getting his reaction, the Kano based FA Chairman deliberately refused to debunk the allegation jokingly asking for a play back of the tape where the allegation was made. “Let me hear the tape and then I will be able to answer you, if not I have nothing to say about it,” he said laughing away. Further investigation revealed that NFF second vice President, Shehu Dikko and Ahmed Fresh are the brain behind the emergence of former Super Eagles winger, Tijani Babangida who is contesting as the Association's president. For now, we are still not able to establish the premise Dahiru is standing on to demand for a halt for the election of an Association he served for more than two terms, far beyond the prescribed tenure for each member. And recently, members have began to agitate for a new lease of life for an association that boast of very notable Nigeria footballers both current and retired, as most of them have also expressed their total dissatisfaction with its unfortunate state. And one of the members who spoke to us on condition of anonymity wondered why Dahiru Sadi will want to work against an association he served and also served him well. “If what we are hearing is true, then we will be highly disappointed in Dahiru. Does it mean that he wants to drag this association back into crisis after all it had gone through before now? We want to believe that it is not true and we are waiting to see,” he said. Meanwhile, campaign and election processes have begun as candidates continue to jostle for vote for their various positions. And based on the names of the candidates released by the election committee, two candidates alone would be contesting for the position of the president.
