NFF, Others To Benefit From Additional $16.2million COVID-19 Financial Support

The Confederations of African Football (CAF) has allocated an additional $16.2 million to assist member associations to mitigate challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each Member Associations will be entitled to $300,000.

Football and other sporting activities had been put on hold since the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic in February this year.

It was not clear on how CAF wants its members associations to use the funds.

In May, the world football governing body (FIFA) doled out $500,000 Relief Fund to its members associations to cushion the effect of COVID-19.

FIFA, which had earlier disbursed a total of $150 million to its member football associations to help handle financial troubles caused by the coronavirus, said the fund was for “all operational funding” for 2019 and 2020 and is “the first step of a relief plan to assist the football community impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic”.

The NFF pledged then to adhere to the dictates of FIFA in spending the $500,000 relief fund it received.

The decision was one of several resolutions reached at a virtual meeting of the NFF’s Executive Committee in May.

An NFF statement stated then that the funds from FIFA would be spent on “but not limited to” certain “core areas” “in line with the FIFA Forward 2.0 Program”.

The areas include management and staff salaries, men’s league, women’s league, referees’ development training, National Teams (including boys and girls’ youth teams), office operations, renovations and furnishing of Bauchi NFF/FIFA Technical Centre.
