NFF Set To Replace National Team Coaches - Latest Sports in Nigeria
By Niyi Busari
The Nigeria Football Federation has mapped out strategies to turn around the recent poor outing of the country's national team, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
One of the strategies according to the federation is to replace the coaches of the national teams that have performed below expectations.
This follows their meeting with the minister of youth and sports development, Mr Sunday Dare on Monday where the minister demanded a written explanation on why Nigeria football teams can no longer perform as expected in international competitions.
The statement which was contained in a press release by the federation reads in part:
"The NFF went ahead to map out strategies for better results going forward, including but not limited to a revamp of the NFF Technical Department; improved supervision of the teams by the NFF Technical Committee; open and transparent process to select new head coaches for the teams affected; early preparation and prioritization of tournaments; synergy between the Ministry and the NFF to get approved funds released early enough for adequate preparation of teams participating in major matches and competitions and; to work even harder at securing partners and sponsors to support the programmes of the National Teams."
The statement emphasised on the affected teams which include; the Golden Eaglets, the Nigeria U23 national team, the Falcons, as well as Flying Eagles.
Nigerians were not happy with the coach Paul Aigbogun-led Flying Eagles after crashing out at the second round at the 2019 FIFA U2O World Cup; the Falcons when they failed to beat Cote d'Ivoire to progress to the next round of the 2020 Olympic qualifier, the Golden Eaglets at the just concluded FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil and the Imama Amapakabo tutored U23 national team who failed to pick one of the 2020 Olympic tickets at the ongoing U23 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Going by the statement and the coaches performances, Flying Eagles coach, Paul Aigbogun, the Falcons interim coach, Christopher Danjuma, U23 team head coach, Imama Amapakabo and the Golden Eaglets coach Manu Garba are about to lose their jobs.
