There are strong indications that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is keen to retain the services of Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr with negotiations for a new contract at the concluding stage, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

This was made known by the First Vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi when reacting to questions on a WhatsApp platform (Kwara Sports Arena).

The Lagos state FA chairman said, "Gernot Rohr's contract is at the stage of Crossing the T's and dotting the I's."

Rohr is currently into the last two months of his current contract and the NFF, few months ago said it will only give the Eagles coach a new deal provided he is ready to accept all the conditions that will be stipulated in the new contract. On his side, Rohr has agreed to work with the stipulated conditions even with a pay cut.

The 66-year old coach who can be approached by other interested parties between now and June is however, believed to also want to continue on the Eagles job that has seen him led Nigeria to a group stage outing at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and a bronze medal finish at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.

Recall that the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare was quoted to say that he wants a competent coach for the Super Eagles. Thought he didn't rule out Gernot Rohr contract extension by the NFF.

In the same vein, 2nd Vice-president of the NFF, Shehu Dikko was quoted saying that the federation has no problem with the Franco-German coach.

Rohr guided Nigeria to win her first two matches in their quest for the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifier after defeating Benin Republic 2-1 at home and Lesotho 4-2.
