Nigeria 1-1 Cape Verde: Why Ighalo Needs To Improve His Performance After Missing Two Great Chances

Nigeria went into their match facing the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos knowing all they had to do was to win or pick up a draw to top Group C and thereby making it to the next round of the World Cup qualifier, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Ahead of the match, the Super Eagles were coming at the back of a 2-0 win over Liberia and in that match, the pair of Osimhen and Kelechi started in front but that changed as Rohr decided to make a change from the formation with Ighalo replacing Kelechi upfront.

The Eagles went into the lead in the match a minute into the game after Oshimen's cool finish inside the box but that strike was cancelled out by Tavares through a corner kick.

Despite Nigeria having more chances to take the lead back in the match, the first half ended 1-1 with Ighalo missing two clear chances.

The second half of the game had little or more to offer with both countries settling for a 1-1 draw and with that, the Super Eagles are through to the next round.

Ighalo who had initially retired was called back by Rohr for the two qualifiers and starting his first match back, the Al Shabab forward looked rusty as he missed two big chances first after a pass reached him the which he couldn't convert as the shot was too weak in the 27th minute while in the 33rd minute, Osimhen delivered an inch-perfect cross into the box to find Ighalo but yet again couldn't get his header on target.

Ighalo ended up getting substituted in the second half with Kelechi replacing him and here's why the forward needs to improve for the Eagles.

No doubt Oshimen's goal was enough and if Ighalo wants to play more minutes for the Eagles, he needs to be clinical enough in front of the goal and should blend well with the Oshimen going forward especially knowing the AFCON is coming up in January and the World Cup playoffs.
