Nigeria, 7 Others To Participate In 23rd Ladies Open Golf Championship By Niyi Busari Not fewer than 182 lady golfers from eight countries will participate in 23rd Ladies Open Golf Championship at the IBB Golf Course, Abuja. The event which is the first to be listed on the World Amateur Ranking will have at least two golfers ranked in the World Amateur Ranking. This is made known when the organisers on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the President, Nigeria Golf Federation, Otunba Segun Runsewe, at the headquarters of National Council for Arts and Culture, Abuja. The organisers, Ladies Golfers led by Lady Richard Obioha Marylove said they paid the courtesy visit to intimate the president and Chairman of the occasion of the international competition and also seek for his supports. "We are here to intimate the president and also seek his support on the oncoming biggest golf event in Nigeria." Marylove told journalists in Abuja. "This is the first time we are having a golf event to be listed on the World Amateur Ranking. 182 lady golfers from eight countries will participate in the event. "We also intend to showcase our culture and dress in Nigeria and African way, that's why we come to the Director General of National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Segun Runsewe. In his remark, Segun Runsewe applauded the initiative and promised to invite the ambassadors of the seven countries to add colours to the international event. "I am happy and delighted that progress's is made in women's golf. "We will put in our input to make a different. Invitation will be sent to the ambassadors of the seven countries that will participate in the competition. We will also make sure that Nigeria is integrated in the World Handicap Index. Also, we will decorate the occasion with full of cultural market and display. The golfers will also dress in African attire while playing to showcase our culture to the world. The event which will commence on 10th February, 2022 will climax on 13th. Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Gabon, Tanzania, Zambia and Botswana have indicated interest to take part in the world ranked golf tournament.
