Nigeria club side hires Ex-Porto player, one other as coaches

Nigeria club side, Garden City Panthers FC of Abuja, have acquired the services of former Portugal international, Manuel Matias as its Head Coach.

The chairman of the club, Robinson Adakosa, confirmed this on Monday in an interview with the newsmen.

Matias played 272 games in 13 seasons in the Primeira Liga for Salgueiros, Vitória de Guimarães, União da Madeira, Leça, Gil Vicente, Vitória de Setúbal and Porto and made 46 International appearances for Portugal.

The 55-year-old made his Primeira Liga debut for Salgueiros on 13 March 1983 in a game against Porto.

Matias who holds a UEFA Pro-license, has managed several clubs in Portugal, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

According to Adakosa, he will be assisted by another Portuguese, Pereira Taborda, who holds a UEFA B-License.

The Portuguese has worked in Vianense, Pedras Salgadas, Naval, Almancilense, Antalyaspor, Leixões, Operario dos Açores as a coach.

According to Adakosa, the coaches are expected to resume work in February.
