Nigeria Men Tennis Team Emerge Champions at ITTF African Champ'ship

Nigeria
By Admin The Nigeria men’s table tennis team have emerged champions at the International Table Tennis Federation, ITTF, African championship in Mauritius. Aruna Quadri, who recently made history by winning the Nigeria Open, led the country to a 3-1 victory over Egypt in the final of the men’s team event on Wednesday. After watching their female counterparts lose to Egypt in the women’s final, Quadri and his teammates seemed determined not to allow for a double by the North Africans. As it has always been the case in games between Nigeria and Egypt, Wednesday’s encounter was expectedly keenly-contested. Both countries were even after the first two sets but the veteran, Segun Toriola, put Nigeria in front (2-1) after the third set. Thankfully, Quadri lived up to his billing as he delivered the goods, defeating El-Beiali Mohamed 3-1 in the game decider to deservedly secure Team Nigeria the continental crown in the men’s team gold medal match. With their triumph in Mauritius on Wednesday, Nigeria have thus secured the ticket to represent the continent at 2019 ITTF World Team Cup in Tokyo that would be taking place in November 2019.
