It was all joy at the Paga/Making of Champions Relays as Nigeria's mixed 4×400 relay team punched a ticket to the Olympic Games coming up next month, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
The team lead by Chidi Okezie ran to a time of 3:14.09 to finish first and break the African Record (AR) and National Record (NR) on Sunday at the Sports Complex of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.
Nigeria team A of Nse Imaobong, Samson Nathaniel, Patience Okon-George, and Okezie outran Nigeria's B team and Senegal who finished second and third respectively.
The time 3:14.09 is four seconds off their previous benchmark of 3:18.53 which moved them to 15th in the Qualifying Position, ahead of the Czech Republic who previously occupied the spot in the mixed 4×400 rankings.
The news is another opportunity for the country to give it a shot at a medal in the relays after the 4×100 and 4×400 women both qualified a week ago.
Team Nigeria quartet of Nse Imaobong, Favour Ofili, Knowledge Omoboh and Patience Okon ran a fantastic Season's Best of 3:26.83s to win the Women's 4×400m and grab an Olympic ticket at the Lagos Open Athletics Championship.
